Our Byway & Backway:

The WV byway and WV backway located in the Gilmer County region both offer travelers a beautiful travelling alternative to the major highway. The Little Kanawha Byway and Cedar Creek Road Backway have been designated as such by the state of West Virginia because of their scenic, historic, cultural, natural and recreational resources.

The Little Kanawha Byway
A well-traveled, east/west link between I-77 (at Mineral Wells) and I-79 (at Burnsville), The Little Kanawha Byway winds along the river of the same name.  Through rustic farm lands and rural towns, this alternative to the interstate offers access to canoeing, fishing, forests, hunting, hiking, lakes, and more. Five of Gilmer County's ten historic landmarks are located along this route.

Cedar Creek Road Backway
Following along Cedar Creek through Cedar Creek State Park, this backway offers a glimpse of mid-19th and early 20th century homes and buildings as it roll through farmsteads, pastures and forested hills. This route offers a wide variety of recreational activities, including hunting, fishing, and biking, as well as swimming, tennis, hiking, camping and paddle boating at Cedar Creek State Park.
